This Is The Ultimate Lamborghini Miura

Yes there’s the Countach and the Murciélago, and they are great Lamborghinis. More than great in fact. They are things of legend along with the majority of cars impregnated with the Italian bull. But legends are almost plebeian next to this – a one0off Lamborghini Miura SVR. “One of the most astonishing Lamborghinis ever built,” they say with modesty.

This car was newly restored by their Polo Storico department after a long journey of eight different owners, one of which – a german, Heinz Straber – delivered it back to Lamborghini for this to take place.

It’s a more extreme version of the Miura SVJ, with Bob Wallace, Lamborghini’s revered test driver, taking charge on that project. It took, what must have been a very long 18 months for the owner, to be restored. In fact, so long that the owner had a change of heart and sold it to someone in Japan. I take it he did that before he laid eyes on the real thing?

Japan was its home for four decades in which it found itself in a comic book called ‘Circuit Wolf’ and where it spawned scale models of itself made by Kyosho, a Japanese toy car company.

Paolo Gabrielli, head of Polo Storico, said it took 19 months to be restored.

“The original production sheet wasn’t of much help, as we relied mostly on the specifications from the 1974 modifications,” he said. “The challenge for the Polo Storico team was even more daunting as the car arrived in Sant’Agata in pieces, although the parts were all there, and with considerable modifications.”

There were a few changes from the original spec sheet. It now has more supportive seats, four-point harnesses, and a removable roll bar which is for safety when they take the car to racing exhibitions. Racing exhibitions? Yes, racing exhibitions. Good.
