Video: Tiff Needell Explains Why He Was Kicked Off Fifth Gear

You’ve all heard the news by now. It was one of our most clicked articles this month and the majority of you seemed devastated at the new that Tiff Needell isn’t going to return to the next series of Fifth Gear.

He’s now upping the amount of work he’s doing for a company and YouTube channel called Lovecars, where he’s doing what he does best, sliding cars and talking to a camera. It’s brilliant, and  well worth a watch if you miss a bit of Tiff on TV.

In the video linked below, Tiff explains why he wasn’t invited back to Fifth Gear, along with a host of other questions asked by viewers and fans.

“Fifth Gear or Top Gear?” a fan asks. “Well obviously Top Gear now!” Needell replies. “I love Chris Harris, I mean Chris harris very much thinks the same way as I do about driving a car so I do love watching Chris Harris, so Top Gear’s the one.”

He then goes on to explain how he loves his co-hosts from Fifth Gear and has had some “nice good wishes” from them, despite some joking about them in the video. Needell is obviously, and understandably, quite bitter towards Fifth Gear, or rather the Discovery Channel after what’s happened.

Now, the juicy bit. A fan asks what Tiff thinks was the real motive behind him not returning to Fifth Gear.

“Well, they replaced me with a younger man, also a racing driver,” Tiff says. “Quite famous, trendy looking younger man.

“Some younger commissioning editor at Discovery has decided he doesn’t like an older person. I’m just guessing, no one’s giving me any reason at all. No communication. I’ve just been told they think it’ll be a better show without me.”

There are hints throughout the video that Lovecars is looking at a TV show, hopefully then can pull some strings and bring back the original Top Gear and Fifth Gear king, and give us back Tiff on TV.
