Volvo Broke The Nurburgring Track Record Without You Knowing
Volvo is an automaker which simply relies on its quality of products to sell them. You see very little advertising and, unlike some companies, very little boasting. They rely on the fact that people already respect the marque.
Volvo therefore have no reason to shout about the fact that they once held the Nurburgring saloon record with their S60. Albeit not quite the one they sell, but a S60 road car with applied performance upgrades by Scion Racing and Polestar.
After the 2016 WTCC race on the ‘Ring, Volvo and their racing team stayed behind to continue testing their S60 road car. Without an aim to even set a record, they beat the BMW M5’s record by 4 seconds with a 7:51.110 lap time. The S60 in question was a tuned version of the T6, with around 500bhp being produced from its 6-cylinder engine.
Porsche was soon hot on their heels with their Panamera, but for a moment, this Volvo was the fastest saloon on the ‘Ring and didn’t say a word. Thankfully, they don’t need to brag for us to realise what a legend the Swedish company is.
