Watch The Hennessey Venom F5 Shooting Flames As It Screams On The Dyno
Customer deliveries for the new Hennessey Venom F5 began last November. And while the tuning company is working on building the remaining 23 cars, each of which are sold and seen to, they’ve shown us what it can do by sticking a prototype on a dyno. This way, we get to see just what their high-power Fury engine can do before it hits its 8,300rpm limit.
Pushing 1,817 brake horsepower and 1,193 pound-feet of torque, the Fury engine is a 6.6-litre V8 boosted with a pair of turbochargers. It screams as it reaches its redline, and while its real mission is to hit 300mph on the open road, right now it serves as an antidote to the silent EVs we’re currently being swamped with.
The engine is based on GM’s legendary LS, but on the F5 it has a dry sump, titanium intake valves, cast-iron block, and uprated fuel injectors. Its ECU technology comes from drag racing, and power is sent to just the rear wheels via a single clutch, 7-speed auto gearbox.
Maybe unsurprisingly, each car was sold for $2.1 million, but as it has no airbags, it can only be registered as a show and display vehicle, meaning owners will only be able to drive it 2,500 miles a year. Talk about taming a beast…
Will this car take the top speed record next? We’ll have to wait and see.
