With Just 2 Mods, McLaren 720S Hits 0-60 In 1.8 Seconds and 8-Second Quarter-Mile

McLaren is the producer of literal perfection when it comes to its cars, and the 720S only builds upon that with it being known too well as the best supercar money can buy. It’s so incredibly fast but still remains easy to drive with perfect visibility and adequate fuel usage. But how does it do on the quarter-mile? We turn to DragTimes to answer this question.

As you may have guessed, it’s whips, and with one owner performing two very minor modifications to his black 720, it was able to run the drag strip in just 8.999 seconds at a speed of 159.83mph. That is more than impressive, that’s quite simply mad. The mods include aftermarket downpipes by Ryft and a custom tune – that is all it takes for this car to be able to reach 60mph in just 1.8 seconds.

A dyno run shows that this car has almost 900hp and close to 700lb ft of torque.

A white version follows, this time with a full exhaust system and a custom tune. It bellows down the strip hitting a speed of 156.64mph in just 8.953 seconds, only slightly knocking the black variant off of its pedestal. But even without any changes, the stock 720S boasts insane numbers from the factory.

Behind the driver sits a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 710hp on tap. Add to this already mind-blowing equation some torque of 568lb ft, and you’ve got a car that can hit a top speed of 212mph and 60mph in just 2.9 seconds. But, it isn’t cheap, with new cars selling for around £208,000, but depreciation is a killer so expect to pay almost half of that for minimal miles. Still, can you put a price on perfection? Well, yes, but I still want one.

  1. Thanks for the feature, the downpipes and exhaust was made by our company http://www.RYFT.co or @RYFT.co on Instagram. The team at 1k did an amazing job and helped us develop our ‘final edition’ exhaust to fit their needs and break these records.
