Ken Block Dies Aged 55 In Freak Snowmobile Crash In Utah

Ken Block, the man behind Hoonigan, DC shoes, and the legendary Gymkhana videos has died at the age of 55 after a snowmobile accident in Utah.

If Colin McRae wasn’t the one to make you fall in love with rallying, it would have been Ken Block as he raced in Rally America and Global Rallycross with his iconic Subarus and Ford adorned with the recognisable Monster and DC imagery. On top of this, he gained millions of fans from his gymkhana videos.

Starring on Top Gear, the rally driver showed James May just how crazy it gets as he threw him around an abandoned airfield in his Impreza hatch. It was here he gained serious stardom.

Hoonigan confirmed his passing in a post on Instagram.

“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today. Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed. Please respect the family’s privacy at this time while they grieve.,” it read.

According to local reports, Block was riding a snowmobile which flipped and landed on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene by local authorities. He had been riding with others, but was alone at the time.

Speaking out about Block’s passing, the American Rally Association said the following:

“We are gutted to hear the news of the passing of rally icon Ken Block. He was a massive influence on everything he touched, including the global world of rallying.”

“His stewardship within the ARA these past few years was invaluable and he will be forever missed.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Block family and everyone at Hoonigan.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends. He’ll be greatly missed by us at Grand Tour Nation.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
