McLaren Confirms P1 Successor At Goodwood FOS
McLaren is n exceptional car company. In a minute fraction of the time that marques like Ferrari and Lamborghini have been fighting their way through the automotive minefield, they have set up shop and successfully planted themselves within the supercar market. Not only that, but they’ve built up a credibility that rivals even the greatest Italian legends.
According to their latest press release at Goodwood Festival of Speed, their heritage is only going to get larger and more potent over the next seven years. The strategy is named Track 25 and features an investment of £1.2bn which will be pushing an extra 18 models through their gates. The entirety of which will be hybrid by the middle of next decade.
With the Senna already under production and the single seater BP23 (possible guises shown below) hot under its heels, the confirmed third Ultimate Series car according to Track 25, will see the replacement of the P1. And like the Senna is made for the ultimate track experience and the BP23 will be for ultimate top speed, the new P1 will be the “ultimate expression of McLaren’s technical expertise and prowess”.
McLaren also spoke of “augmented driving features” to improve on battery-life, charging speed, and battery use in performance applications. They hope to give us 30 minutes of battery life performance on track, so I’m guessing it has something to do with energy-dense fast charging solid-state batteries.
It’s not only good news for the potential buyers of these cars, but also for the potential teams working on them, as such an increase in factory output will more than certainly require a larger staff. And let’s not forget about the £50m McLaren Composites Technology Centre in Sheffield which will certainly be run off its feet.
GTN will keep you updated over this weekend so keep your eyes peeled for more exciting news coming from Goodwood Festival of Speed.
