Track Day Goodies

This 2021 Civic Type R will include all the updates done to the previous model and come with additional track-inspired goodies. The goal of this special hatch was making it lighter, sharper, and faster. They shaved 46 lbs by reducing sound-deadening materials, removing the rear wiper blade, tonneau cover, and rear heat ducts. This car will also feature 20-inch, forged aluminum wheels from BBS – in black. Wrapped around these BBS wheels will be a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

However, Europe-spec models will be even lighter. Those 100 Civic Type Rs will not have audio or air conditioning systems saving an additional 30 lbs. The US-spec won’t get this feather-weight edition because the market isn’t big enough for it. We yanks enjoy our AUX cords and A/C units.
Modifications from a stock Civic Type R includes recalibrated steering for maximum control. The dampers have also been specially tuned. Under the hood, the 2021 Civic Type R will still be powered by its 2.0-liter direct-injected, turbocharged, 4-cylinder VTEC engine. Top-end performance of 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Controlling the car’s power is a close-ratio 6-speed manual with limited-slip differential.

Besides the Phoenix Yellow paint job, this limited edition Type R will also have gloss black paint on the roof, a black chrome Civic Badge in the rear, black gloss side mirrors, and a black intake hood vent. Pricing for these Type Rs will not be released until later in the year.
