Lotus Type 132 SUV Teased In Final Video Before Release Later This Month

In an effort to up revenue and grab some success, Lotus is revealing the Type 132 SUV at the end of this month. But before it’s fully revealed on March 29, the British marque has released a teaser video to wet our appetite.

Clive Chapman, the son of legendary Lotus founder Colin Chapman, takes point on the video, explaining to us that his father would have loved the opportunity to design an SUV. I don’t quite believe it, but who am I to argue?

At the very end of the video we’re shown the side-on silhouette of the upcoming car, and it certainly looks the part with a low roof, high belt line, and thick arches. Its side mirrors look in fact to be cameras, and the more I look at it, the more it reminds me of the upcoming Ferrari Purosangue.

Looking at the previous teasers from Lotus, we know the car will have a full-width LED light bar as well as fancy narrow LED headlights that take some inspiration from Lotus’ other cars, the Emira and Evija.

Inside we know very little. There’s a small instrument cluster behind the wheel which itself features touch-sensitive buttons, and there are a couple of paddle shifters as you’d expect, despite the car being an EV.

Lotus has changed a lot from its humble beginnings. The Elise and Exige were champions of the road, and the Evora, while being largely looked over, was a brilliant car, too. This new angle into the world of SUVs may come as a disappointment to many, but all we can hope for is that the revenue from this is funneled into something truly brilliant.

Yeah, the SUV is going to be interesting, but I’m much more excited for what follows it.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
