Mazda RX-10 Vision Longtail Revealed With Mid-Engine Rotary Motor
Mitsubishi designer Maximilian Schneider has been going hard on his Instagram lately, with some striking imaginations of what a Mazda RX-10 should look like. His design envisions the revered rotary-motor with a mid-engine placement and a sweeping longtail back end.
Even though Mazda has ceased production of its beloved rotary flagship, the RX-8, for ages now, this sleek refresh would be a great place to resume the legacy. Schneider say that he would put combine a pair of electric motors on the front axis, with the supercharged 2.3L engine for a total of just over 1000 horsepower!
From above, the design has a nice symmetry thanks to its engine placement and long rear. Both the taillights and headlights are elegant lines with just enough of the distilled shapes at their end to fit inside of Mazda’s established design language. The windows give both panoramic views from the inside, while simultaneously giving passersby a peak into the engine compartment. If you look closely, you can see a series of perforations on the scoops to either side of the grill, which may aid in downforce and pull this puppy even tighter to the road.
The suggested top speed of 265 MPH sounds spot on, as someone who has seen cars this good looking with similar top specs in the past. These latest renders and imaginings of Mazda’s have been really exciting compared to their cars of the last few years, and fingers are crossed they take this kind of direction moving forward.
