Meet The Citroen C5 X – A Mix Of SUV And Shooting Brake
Citroen has always been able to innovate the motoring industry. It created and perfected the multi-purpose vehicle, or MPV, and regardless of whether they looked good – some did, but most didn’t – they had lots of interior space and drove well. Since then, SUVs have taken their place in the automotive hierarchy, but now Citron is again choosing to push vehicle design forward.
What you’re looking at is the C5 X, and while it looks like an estate wagon, it’s far more than that. Citroen says it “offers the elegance of a saloon, the versatility of an estate and the commanding presence of an SUV”. And while it looks a bit like an Audi Allroad, that being an estate with a slightly engorged ride height, it slopes at the rear, giving it a sporty persona. It looks great, and there’s no denying that.
Citroen was always known for its incredibly comfortable suspension. Even Top Gear showed this off when they drove one alongside a horse race with a camera strapped to its rear.
This new car is no different, with comfort being the top priority for the brand with it using Citroën Advanced Comfort Active suspension to absorb bumps through hydraulic cushions. Like Jeremy Clarkson said, it’ll be like driving over silk. Inside, the seats only add to this cushioning, with the marque adding “special padding that works like a mattress topper”. We’ve seen this in other PSA vehicles, and it does truly add to the comfort with bits being of foam being added to certain places to improve “dynamic and postural comfort”.
Of course, the interior is decked out with plenty of technology such as a 12-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, and a colour heads-up display, and yet the design is simple and calming. What may not be so calming is the engines, but we’re yet to hear much about what will be available just yet apart from the lineup will lack any diesels, with them being replaced by a four-cylinder hybrid producing 222 horsepower and an electric-only range of 31 miles.
