Meet The First Hybrid, And Most Powerful Lamborghini Yet – Lamborghini Sian
From a company that has been afraid of spoiling their powerful engines with turbochargers comes this, the Lamborghini Sian, the company’s first ever hybrid.
While there isn’t a massive difference to the classic Lamborghini design language, Y-shaped daytime running lights adorn the front of the car and active aero trickery hides away nestled at the rear. The curve of the roof swoops into a Countach-like rear deck and angular haunches gives its sides some well-earned muscle.
This is arguably one of the prettiest Lambos to date, and the fastest. Unable to give up its grip on the V12 layout, Lamborghini has opted for a 6.5-litre V12 which produces 774bhp at a spine tingling 8,500rpm. It has titanium intake valves, a tuned ECU, and a brand new exhaust for the most efficient of exhales.
To fill in any gaps in the lower end of the power curve, a 34bhp motor in the gearbox boosts overall power to 808bhp, making it the most powerful car ever to be given the Lamborghini badge. It also means 62mph can be dispatched in less than 2.8 seconds, and the gap between 43mph to 75mph is 1.2 seconds faster than the Aventador SVJ. If you keep your foot planted, you’ll reach a maximum 217mph.
The whole hybrid system, including an innovative super capacitor, only weighs 34kg according to the Italian marque, so the power-to-weight ratio of the system is an impressive 1bhp per kilogram. The battery is also three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight, and is located in the centre of the car for best weight distribution. Lamborghini boasts that this new super capacitor can charge at the same rate as its energy is being used. This is a strong quote from the company, but if true, will mean an extra boost will always be on hand, especially on track where regenerative braking is constantly in play.
This car commemorates a change for Lamborghini. No longer are they looking to the past, naming their cars after famous fighting bulls. This car’s name comes from the Bolognese dialect meaning ‘flash’ or ‘lightning’, and we’ll surely be seeing more of this in future models.
63 units will be made to celebrate Lamborghini’s birth in 1963, but unfortunately all have already been sold.
