New 2020 SSC Tuatara Plans to Dethrone 300mph Bugatti Chiron Super Sport

We’ve been waiting for the SSC Tuatara for a long time now, literally a decade, but now Shelby SuperCars has finally given us a peek the production-ready model at the Philadelphia Auto Show.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this car, obviously, and we’ve already had a full rundown of its performance specs before, but let’s tell you the good bits. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.9-litre flat-plane-crank V8 that produces 1,750 horsepower on E85 and 1,350 hp on 91 octane. This power gets shovelled through an extremely fast CIMA seven-speed transmission that can shift in as little as 100 milliseconds. With a dry weight of 1,247 kilograms and a drag coefficient of 0.279, it’s not a surprise that SSC is expecting good things from the car.

In fact, SSC is looking at the Tuatara reaching 300mph, possibly even dethroning the Koenigsegg Agera RS and the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport.

Despite this, inside it will have several creature comforts. It has premium audio, a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, power windows, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Controls through the touch screen are used to change things like driving modes and adjust the audio system, and paddles behind the steering wheel change gears manually.

100 units will be built but while pricing hasn’t been revealed, but in 2013, SSC planned to charge $1.3 million for each car. Check out the video below to learn more.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
