This ’92 Volvo 960 Produces 3,000HP From A 10.3-Litre Quad-Turbo Supercharged V8
We love over the top builds, and this 1992 Volvo 960 is exactly the kind of thing we’re after. This car, which would usually drive under the radar to most folks on the road, has been decked out for drag strip dominance, and since then, it hasn’t been so inconspicuous.
Under the bonnet sits a massive 632 cubic-inch, 10.3-litre Chevrolet V8 that was built by Dart Racing, and if you think that’s enough, then wait until you hear that it’s been fitted with not only a supercharger, but four turbochargers, too. Late last year it went up for sale on Ebay Motors where it didn’t sell. Eventually it was relisted and sold for $17,000 after 27 bids.
According to the Ebay listing, the car was built during 2018 to run 27 pounds of boost from its four XS Power turbos into a TBS supercharger. Coupled with a Megasquirt ECU, an MSD injection system, and 116-octane race gas, it’s able to produce 3,000hp and 3144 lb-ft of torque. As you can imagine, this thing runs hot, so cooling is taken care of by two electric water pumps, two fans, and two radiators.
Power is sent only to the rear wheels, so this ain’t no pussy cat, but thankfully a 4L85e automatic transmission takes care of the gear changes. Listen to the thing in the video below:
Inside is mostly stripped, but the car retains its original gear lever, seats, and steering wheel. Seriously.
