This Bugatti Chiron Has A Custom Key Worth £425,000

We recently covered the running costs of a Bugatti Veyron thanks to a brilliant YouTuber by the name of Manny Khoshbin. It’s far to say that it surprised us all just how expensive it is to simply change the car’s fluid, let alone the tyres. But with this recent video from Shmee150, this could blow your mind even further.

The Chiron, the Veyron’s successor, costs at least £2.5 million. This example, a 2018 model in perfect condition and with 450km on it, is being sold for $3.4 million. Yh, it’s quite pricey. But the custom key that Shmee has been given for the video above is worth approximately £425,000.

But why pay so much for a simple key? Well, this one is encrusted with diamonds, specifically, 34.5 carats’ worth. Add 75 grams of 18-carat gold and a host of other precious gems and you get the picture. The leather sitting in the centre almost seems cheap. Awain, the company that makes these custom keys, calls it the Phantom key, and is one of three types of premium keys you can buy for the Chiron. See below.

Shmee handles the ‘cheap’ Quantum key earlier in the video, which costs ‘only’ £42,000 and is trimmed with 175 grams of gold but only 3.6 carat diamonds.

The Phantom key is handled with great care by Shmee after its released from a locked box, and while it’s incredibly fancy and would be an amazing boasting tool, it still locks and unlocks the car like any other key. I bet they charge you a small fortune to replace the batteries, too. But hey, if you have the money for a Chiron, you have the money for a diamond encrusted key.

It begs the question as to why more money isn’t being given to charity, but you have to admit, if you had the money, you’d be tempted. But can you imagine keeping this key in your pocket? I would assume that this key would only be used when taking the car to shows instead of being a daily use item.

Would you spend almost half a million on a key fob? Or would you rather buy, oh I don’t know, a number of small houses, a few supercars… Seems a bit excessive to me.
