Toyota GR Supra GT300 Spotted With V8 Powerplant

We’re getting very confused by how many different Supras there are coming from Toyota. There’s a Super GT, NASCAR, random modified ones that showed up at several car shows… and still, I’m yet to see any Supras actually on the road in the hands of customers. Hmm.

But this hasn’t deterred the Japanese company from chucking out even more special racing car versions of the iconic sports car. This time, it’s another Super GT racing car built for the GT300 category, unlike the previous GT500 spec we’ve already seen. And no, this isn’t a turbocharged toy with a loud exhaust, this is powered by a V8 monster.

Thanks to Daily Sportscar, we now know this car complies with JAF-GT300 regulations, meaning it will compete with a design built from the ground up. This means a bespoke chassis built for the turmoils of the track, custom bodywork for that all important aero trickery, and an engine bay big enough for 8 cylinders.

The engine is rumoured to be a 3.4-litre V8 from the Prius GT300 that was being used by Toyota over the last few years. Yeah, a Prius made a noise as good as the one you’re hearing on the video above. It’s a real screamer, and we can’t wait to hear more of it. I mean, we’ve got to see the Supra somewhere, right?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
