Video: GM Exec Crashes Pace Car Corvette Before Race Even Starts

Driving a pace car is an interesting job. You can be driving perfectly on the best track in the world in front of millions of people, yet no one will be watching you. Instead, their eyes will be fixed on the cars following behind you. That’s until you make one very small mistake, and suddenly you’re plastered over every motoring news outlet from here to, well, there.

That’s exactly what General Motors product development chief, Mark Reuss did at the Detroit IndyCarGP. Don’t get me wrong, he is a seriously talented driver and a connoisseur of car nicknames, christening the 2015 650hp ZO6 ‘The Big Nasty’. From now on however, he’s going to be remembered for one more thing, as well.

Reuss set out for a taster in the ZR1 and before the race even started, shunted it. The race was delayed almost half an hour and I think it’s safe to say he was embarrassed. Both him and his passenger Mark Sand were uninjured during the accident.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
