Jeremy Clarkson Takes On Farmer’s Worst Enemy In Clarkson’s Farm Season 2: “I Called Them Ba****ds”

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that during Clarkson’s Farm Season 2, he takes on a farmer’s worst enemy: the badger, calling them “ba****ds” in the process.

Clarkson’s Farm returns for a second season of the popular Prime Video farming show after a long wait for fans. And while a lot of the upcoming series will follow the Grand Tour presenter as he tries to win over the Chadlington locals, it’s been revealed that he gets up close and personal with an even bigger threat.

Badgers may look cute and cuddly to us normal people, but they pose a huge risk to farms as they carry TB which can infect other animals and, if it’s bad enough, shut farms down for good.

Talking about how he wanted to keep this series a realistic reflection of farming, Jeremy discussed his hatred for the animals and the “heartache” they brought him:

“That was one of the most difficult areas to cover because the badger is much-loved by most people in the country. In fact, the only people who absolutely hate badgers are farmers and people who work in the countryside.”

He admitted that he wasn’t sure which way to take the show, but quickly realised that he had to stay close to his original thinking.

“We thought, ‘What do we do?’ because if you want to make a popular show you have to say, ‘Oh, look at the little cuddly-wuddly badgers.’ But I thought: no, it’s a farming show, and you’d lose your core audience, the farmers, if you went around, saying, ‘Look at these sweet little animals.’

“So, I actually called them bastards and showed people what they actually do. It’s truthful.
These are not nice animals. Do not be fooled by Brian May. This is what badgers do. This is
how much heartache they’re causing to people who’ve worked for generations to build up a
farm that’s been wiped out by badgers.”

Of course, by confronting subjects such as this, you have to expect the show to be of a more mature nature. So be warned, it’s not for the faint of heart as the ex-Top Gear presenter leaves no stone unturned as he warns fans that it could be a difficult watch:

“It was gory, for sure. Finding a dead badger, and showing all that hedgehog blood on its mouth, and all the things it’s eaten and the cows it’s infected. Not pleasant.

“Then there was a cow struggling to give birth and we had to use a winch to get the calf out. You could edit that out and if you were making a Sunday evening programme, you probably would. But if you want to know what life is like for farmers, you’ve got to put that in.

“You’ve got to put the badgers in and say how much damage they do, and you’ve got to show the tricky births.”

Clarkson’s Farm Series 2 launches Friday 10th February 2023 on Prime Video.
