This Is The Scariest Crash At Goodwood Festival Of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill Climb run is a dangerous one. Incidents don’t usually occur, but when they do, they very often go bad. Sometimes just for the fact that a priceless car is damaged – hay bales may look friendly, but they certainly make a scratch.

Sometimes they go bad because the crash is just a bad one. It isn’t just a shunt that damages the car, but a shunt that rips the car to pieces and ruins the underwear of the driver. Thankfully, the driver of this Ford RS200 wasn’t hurt, but we can’t say the same for the car.

A car made for Pikes Peak not only relies on power, but aerodynamics, too. These work hand-in-hand to enable the car to gain some serious velocity while staying flat on the ground. So when all of the rear aero rips off, something is going to go wrong.

And it did. The almighty power of this RS200 threw the car off to the side into the hay bales and the rear of the car lit up with flames.

I’m sure the driver is thanking his lucky stars this didn’t happen on Pikes Peak. That would have gone a lot worse.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
