F1 Fans Furious With FIA Statement Over Scary Japanese GP Moment

Pierre Gasly is rightly incredibly angry after he spotted a tractor on-track while driving at full speed. The Japanese Grand Prix was red-flagged as the rainy conditions worsened, but the tractor was released before the flags were shown. As you’d expect, both fans and drivers have taken to Twitter to voice their anger.

Now, the FIA has released a statement, but it’s annoyed fans even further:

“In relation to the recovery of the incident on Lap 3, the Safety Car had been deployed and the race neutralized. Car 10 [Pierre Gasly], which had collected damage and pitted behind the Safety Car, was then driving at high speed to catch up to the field.

“As conditions were deteriorating, the Red Flag was shown before Car 10 passed the location of the incident where it had been damaged the previous lap.” the FIA posted.

It’s safe to say this hasn’t gone down well with the blame apparently falling on Gasly.

WTF1’s Tim Bellingham tweeted:

“Gasly complains about the tractor. Albon and Sainz complain about the tractor in their post-race interview. Norris tweeting about the tractor. Every driver team radio complains about the tractor. F1: Gasly‘s fault.”

Matt Gallagher also commented:

“I feel very uncomfortable watching this analysis where they’re kinda blaming Gasly.

“Wtf.”

The account F24 also highlighted the attack on Gasly:

“Karun Chandhok and Paul Di Resta doing their best to outline what Gasly did wrong.”

With the race now greenlit again, we wait for more drama.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
