F1 News: George Russell Reflects On Poor FP2 – ‘We’ve Got Worse Today”

George Russell isn’t feeling overly impressed by the changes made to the Mercedes W13 after FP2 at the Canadian Grand Prix as he finishes P7 on the timesheet. With the team trying to reduce porpoising while maintaining performance, they’ve seemed to pushed the car down the grid as they continue to work on a fix.

“Ultimately it wasn’t where we want it to be. We’re quite a long way off the pace compared to the front two teams,” he said. “We’ve got worse today.”

He was asked about how the car felt on this track:

“Still very bumpy to be honest, just for the stiffness of these cars are just brutal,” he answered.

“Here you really feel the stiffness as we sort of did in Monaco and it’s something we’re trying to tackle.”

He was then asked how he had to change his driving to match this track:

“I definitely can’t run them (the kerbs) as much as we used to”.

He continued:

“In FP2 that was probably the biggest deviation of set up, Lewis and I have had all season, We went in two very drastically different directions and we’ll probably be able to find the happy medium between the two. We’re going to be working hard. We just need to make sure we qualify ahead of the midfield.”
