F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Admits He’s “Struggled Mentally And Emotionally” After A Tough Year

After a worrying start to the F1 season by Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he’s “struggled mentally and emotionally”, adding that it’s a “constant effort to keep going”.

Hamilton had a lucky break at the opening race of the 2022 season in Bahrain after both Red Bull drivers had to retire their cars after what turned out to be fueling issues. This allowed the 7-time world champion – who had been pushing throughout the whole race to maintain an adequate 5th place – to finish on the podium in P3.

Saudi Arabia didn’t go as well for the Briton as a badly timed virtual safety car and pit closure stopped him from pitting at the optimal time, leading to a P10 finish, 5 places behind teammate George Russell.

Today, he posted to his Instagram stories the following:

“It has been such a tough year already with everything that is happening around us. Hard some days to stay positive.

“I have struggled mentally and emotionally for a long time, to keep going is a constant effort but we have to keep fighting. We have so much to do and to achieve.

“I am writing to tell you it is OK to feel the way you do, just know that you are not alone and that we are going to get through this.

“A friend reminded me today, you are so powerful and you can do anything you put your mind to. We can do anything we put our mind to.

“Let’s remember to live in gratitude for another day to rise. Sending you love and light.”

Hamilton received a serious blow at the end of the 2021 F1 season as Max Verstappen controversially took the championship for Red Bull. Now, as the Mercedes driver pushes for his 8th championship win – a world record number – his Silver Arrow is underperforming compared to the front of the pack, Red Bull and Ferrari.

“I just want to go home,” the driver told the press after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

This comes the same day it’s been revealed that the F1 will be adding Las Vegas to its 2023 calendar.

“It’s gonna be a pretty hardcore event,” Lewis told the F1.

“Knowing that it’s a real party city… It’s difficult for a racing driver. How am I going to focus that weekend?

“There’s going to be so much going on.”
