F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Puts Retirement Rumours To Rest With Striking Post

Lewis Hamilton has put rumours of his retirement to rest for now as he posts to his Instagram account about finishing “his masterpiece”.

The 7-time world champion has found this 2022 F1 season incredibly difficult so far, with Mercedes teammate also struggling but managing to pick up more points than the Briton. This is hugely down to the W13’s porpoising issues which have limited the aerodynamic performance of the car. And while Mercedes is currently 3rd in the Constructor Standings, both drivers are under no illusion that it will stay that far up the table for too much longer.

Despite this, Toto Wolff has promised that the cars have upgrades coming to the car for the Miami Grand Prix which could see a huge decrease in lap time, but we’ll wait until after testing to comment on that.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix saw Lewis Hamilton being lapped by rival Max Verstappen in his Red Bull, adding the cherry to his quickly deflating cake, but Hamilton isn’t ready to retire just yet, despite Red Bull’s Helmut Marko insisting:

“He was lapped by us so maybe he should have stopped last year, he is thinking maybe.”

Hamilton told his followers on Instagram:

“Working on my masterpiece, I’ll be the one to decide when it’s finished.”

The future of the champion’s career has been questioned by media companies and journalists heavily since the controversial end of the 2021 season, and with Mercedes continuously showing its lack of dominance, these rumours didn’t let up.

Previous F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve also questioned Hamilton’s future in a recent column for  Formule1.nl:

“Will Hamilton still be there in two, three years?” the Canadian wrote in his column for Formule1.nl. “Will he even reach the end of this season?

“You can’t see into someone’s head. You can be down and depressed or you can be unable to deal with no longer winning.

“Then maybe it’s time to decide life is better without racing. We’ve been surprised in the past – it’s happened that champions have sometimes just had enough.”

As we have already reported, Christian Horner doesn’t agree that Hamilton won’t be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season:

“He obviously had a horrible weekend but he is still an eight-time World Champion… seven-time! I forgot Nico Rosberg won,” he said.

“He hasn’t forgotten how to drive in the last four races so at some point they will sort their issues out and he will become a factor.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
