F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Readies Himself For Miami GP – “Nothing Will Knock Me Off My Path”
Despite an optimistic start, Lewis Hamilton has struggled so far this season as his Mercedes W13 tackles issues with porpoising, low levels of traction, and high drag. While the opening race of the F1 season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, yielded good but lucky results for Hamilton and his teammate George Russell, the following races have been one let down after another as the Brit has struggled to get to grips with the car.
Despite this, Mercedes still sits third in the Constructor Standings with George Russell sitting in a tidy fourth in the Driver Standings after some brilliant driving. Hamilton however, hasn’t been so lucky, sitting three places behind him.
Two weekends ago, Hamilton had an especially difficult race at Imola where he finished 13th, resulting in him apologising to his team:
“It’s been difficult, but I don’t really know what to say,” he told the press. “It’s definitely not easy.
“At least George got some points today so my apologies to everyone that I wasn’t able to do the same.
“I am out of the championship, and there’s no question about that. It has been a weekend to forget.”
Now, the 7-time world champion has posted to his Instagram promising that “nothing will knock me off my path.”
“GOOD MORNING AMERICA,” he wrote beside photos of him posing in front of the American flag. “I’m so excited for the week ahead and I hope you are too. Every day of this life is a blessing, we can overcome anything. Without failure there is no success.
“There will always be people who love you when you’re up and kick you when you’re down, something I’ve learned along this journey. People project their own shortcomings and I use it as fuel. More than that, I wish everyone love and light in their lives.
“Nothing will knock me off my path and I hope that’s true for you too. Don’t let anybody stop you from being you.”
Fans were obviously quick to show their support.
“Keep fighting Lewis,” one said, with another adding: “Have a great week, Lewis! We are here rooting for you and always supporting you in every moment you need.”
Leading up to the Miami GP this weekend, Mercedes hinted at a number of upgrades that could see faster lap times.
“Hopefully, soon, maybe as soon as Miami, we can start to bring some parts to the car that will hopefully give us an indication on whether we are moving in the right direction,” Andrew Shovlin said last week. Fans will be excited to see if these upgrades come to fruition, and how they could improve Mercedes’ place on the grid.
