F1 News: Max Verstappen Reacts To His Difficult Day Of Qualifying At Italian GP

Max Verstappen had a difficult qualifying today as he fought the Ferraris on their home turf. He finished the day in second position behind his main rival of the 2022 season Charles Leclerc. Despite this, he’s feeling strong for the Sunday, blaming the racing setup of the car not quite being perfect for a qualifying lap.

“It was close, but of course, we chose to go for a little bit more downforce around here. I think over one lap it is maybe not the best, but I think for tomorrow it can be quite strong,” the Red Bull driver said.

Unfortunately for the team, Verstappen will have a 5-place grid penalty on the Sunday morning, but this is where he thinks the car’s high downforce setup will allow him to shine.

“All in all it was still a good lap, I enjoyed the whole weekend so far. It will be an interesting battle tomorrow. Try to stay out of trouble in the beginning, and just make my way forward,” he said.

Currently, we don’t know if Verstappen will start P4 or P7 due to a number of other penalties on the grid. But with Monza being such an easy track to overtake on, we’re about to see something very exciting. Nyck de Vries will also be starting in the top 10 with him replacing Alexander Albon for this weekend due to illness. This means there will be two Dutchmen ready to fight there way up the grid. The question is, how far can the Williams be pushed?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
