F1 News: Max Verstappen’s Practice Comes To An Early End With Gearbox Issues

Max Verstappen’s Red Bull RB18 came to a complete stop during FP1 of the Dutch Grand Prix with mechanical problems. Despite his confidence going into the weekend, his car gave out within the first ten minutes of the session with Mercedes eventually putting down the fastest laps of FP1 in his absence.

This is crucial testing time lost for the 2021 champion, with FP1 usually being used to collect data for qualifying. Fortunately for the Belgian, this apparent gearbox issue is unlikely to stop him from attending FP2 later today.

Verstappen’s stop caused a red flag while the car had to be moved and him safely exit the machine, but it didn’t take long for the session to begin again. He was told not to move the car further than necessary to limit the damage in the gearbox.
