F1 News: Michael Schumacher To Receive Reward Of Highest Honours From Germany

It’s been revealed that Michael Schumacher will receive the highest honours ever given out by his home country of Germany this coming month after such a legendary and successful career in F1.

The 7-time world champion will be recognised by the North Rhine-Westphalia government on July 20th, and will receive the State Prize. This prize, given out only once a year, will stand for everything Schumacher achieved during his life.

The ceremony will take place in Motorworld in the city of Cologne, a city which is known for its passion for the racing driver who formed a legacy with the Ferrari team. The place is also home to Schumacher’s collection of iconic F1 cars.

After his skiing accident in 2013 which has rendered him unable to attend such events, he won’t be attending and will instead have his prize received by his wife Corinna, as well as his children Mick and Gina, on his behalf. Also attending will be former FIA president and friend of Michael’s Jean Todt.

North Rhine-Westphalia prime minister Hendrik Wust described Schumacher as one of the “outstanding personalities in the history of sport worldwide”.

“”Michael Schumacher’s work as a sportsman and as a supporter of good causes radiates far beyond the borders of his home state of North Rhine-Westphalia,” he said.

We haven’t heard a lot of the Schumacher family since his accident in 2013, but Michael’s wife Corinna said the following in the Netflix documentary about the driver:

“We’re together, we live together at home.

“We do therayp, we do everything we can to make Michael better and ensure he is comfortable, and to simply make him feel out family, our bond.

“And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
