F1 News: Nyck De Vries Enters F1 With AlphaTauri Seat

Nyck de Vries confirmed for AlphaTauri seat for the 2023 F1 season.

It has been a day full of announcements with McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo confirming he probably won’t be on the F1 grid next year and current AlphaTauri driver, Pierre Gasly, is set to join the Alpine team for 2023. And now, Dutchman Nyck de Vries has been confirmed for a seat on the AlphaTauri team for the 2023 F1 season.

De Vries had an incredible F1 debut when he stood in for Alex Albon in the Williams for the Italian Grand Prix. He ended up bagging himself two points by coming ninth which is an incredible first performance. After these outstanding results, there was a lot of speculation over whether he will be able to get a permanent seat for the 2023 season.

The Dutchman has explained about the recent news of joining the AlphaTauri team:

“I’m extremely excited to be joining Scuderia AlphaTauri for 2023”

“After Formula 2, I took a slightly different path with motorsport, but F1 has always been my dream and I’m grateful to be able to fulfil it.

“I’ve had a lot of chances to experience the 2022 car this year and I think that has put me in a great position for the upcoming season, I hope this has helped to prepare me for what is to come.”

Franz Tost, AlphaTauri team principal, has acknowledged Pierre Gasly leaving the team before bringing in a “new chapter” De Vries. He said:

“Now, we are pleased to start a new chapter with Nyck, who’s very much welcome at Scuderia AlphaTauri,”

“He is a very high skilled driver, as he won in all the categories he competed in, with many races and championships under his belt. His last big success was winning the Formula E World Championship, and this is clear evidence that he is a very competitive driver, who deserves a seat in F1.”
