F1 News: Toto Wolff Admits Mercedes W13 Is Dangerous For Hamilton And Russell

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has admitted that the W13 is dangerous for drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell thanks to the severe amount of porpoising being experienced.

This came moments before qualifying at the Canadian Grand Prix as the grid headed onto a wet track.

Wolf, commenting on the W13’s poor aerodynamics, admitted that he doesn’t care about the current politics plaguing the sport currently, and only cares about the health and wellbeing of his drivers.

“Sometimes you’re getting upset,” he admitted to Sky Sports F1. “I believe that what we’ve seen in Baku and also here is literally every single driver from every team, including the front runners, suffering from the bouncing or the bottoming.

“[Sergio] Perez was saying he had blurred vision.

“It’s all fair that we’re having political fights about performance gains, but some of them are taking it too lightly when you look at drivers’ health.

“I think in Baku it was definitely too dangerous to run these cars, every single one suffered.

“You could see that the bottoming on the straight was quite dangerous. We’ve seen it yesterday here too.”

On top of this, he admits that the team hasn’t done a good job on the car.

“I think I am speaking just what we all think. Everyone in the team knows we haven’t done collectively a good enough job.

“I try to just support the driver, because you’re driving around with a car that’s dangerous, that doesn’t go fast.

“I just wanted to make sure that we know it’s not the driver’s ability. It’s the car. We are not doing our job at the moment, he is.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
