Eagled eyed fans have spotted that seven-time F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton, keeps has left hand on top of his steering wheel at the start of the races.

Fans started to speculate more after the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix restart, when he stalled, shot straight past Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and ended up not taking any points from that race. Some thought that Hamilton may have subconsciously adjusted the brake balance with his hand being there.

Now, the pit stop mechanic has shown in the TikTok video that it is because of the switch mechanism at the back of the steering wheel. By keeping his hand behind the switch it stop Hamilton from accidentally shifting back. Hamilton hasn’t ever spoken on this technique and explained his reasons behind it but as it looks like this is a member of his pit crew, it looks like this is his reasoning behind it.

Max Verstappen took bagged himself the 2022 driver’s championship at the Japanese Grand Prix, but the battle for second and third continues at the Austin Grand Prix next weekend.
