F1 News: Charles Leclerc Reveals What Went Wrong During Monaco Crash In Classic Ferrari

After his crash in a historic Ferrari F1 car over the weekend, Charles Leclerc has revealed that he “lost the brakes”, which caused the crash in Niki Lauda’s 1974 Ferrari 312 B3.

Driving around Monte Carlo to demo the car to the thousands of fans lining the streets, the Ferrari driver who currently leads the Driver Standings this year spun the car and hit the barrier damaging the rear of the car. When he brought the car to a stop at the pit straight, he told ex-Ferrari driver Jacky Ickx what had happened.

“I lost the brakes. I lost the brakes!” Leclerc said according to Ickx.

“I braked, the pedal was hard, and it went to the floor.

“I was lucky to have it at that moment, because if I had had it at another place, it was no good… the problem is that I got scared. I arrived normally in the corner.”

It’s a well known fact that Leclerc is yet to finish the Monaco Grand Prix during his F1 career which started in 2018. He’s experiences several incidents, including a crash during Q3 of the 2021 Monaco GP which led to driveshaft failure on his Ferrari.

Monaco is only round the corner this year, so we hope Leclerc can have a little more luck as he competes for a championship win.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
