F1 News: Charles Leclerc Takes Second Pole Position Of The Season At Australian Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc of the Ferrari team has taken his second pole position of the season at the 2022 Australian Grand Prix tomorrow with a lap time of 1.17.868.

Following a start to the weekend with many crashes, especially for Aston Martin, Vettel receiving a €5,000 fine for his impromptu scooter ride and an abrupt end for Alonso in Q3, both Red Bull and Ferrari had strong performances throughout the practice sessions and qualifying, however Carlos Sainz had issues towards the end of qualifying, leaving him in ninth position. Mercedes had a good performance despite still suffering from the same issues they have had for the whole season so far, with Hamilton starting fifth and Russell starting sixth on the grid tomorrow.

Following Leclerc starting second tomorrow is Max Verstappen. Sergio Perez will sit third on the grid meaning two Red Bull’s in the top three. Lando Norris sits fourth for McLaren.

Leclerc said in an interview:

“It felt good, even more because it is a track I have always struggled on in the past.

“As a driver, it probably doesn’t fit me as well but this weekend we have worked hard.

“In Q3 I managed to put everything together so it feels great and very happy to be starting on pole tomorrow.

“Again we were quite surprised by our pace in qualifying so we will see what happens tomorrow.”
