F1 News: Fans Call For Cancellation Of Saudi Arabia Grand Prix Dramatic Practice Sessions
Over the last two weeks prior to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the host nation has executed 97 people. Following this, fans are calling for the race to be cancelled.
In the same vein, Lewis Hamilton has received a letter from a 14-year-old boy who is currently on death row. Lewis was asked about this by the press:
“It’s mind-blowing to hear the stories. I’ve heard there has been a letter sent to me from a 14-year-old who is on death row. When you are 14, you still don’t know what the hell you are doing in life.”
With such a strong history of protecting human rights, the 7-time world champion is interested in making a stand.
“We don’t decide where we go but I think we are duty-bound to try and do what we can while we are here.
“It’s not necessarily our responsibility but we try and do what we can. It’s important we try to educate ourselves and with the little bit of difference we can make, make sure we are doing something.
“Ultimately, it’s the responsibility of those who are in power to make the changes and we are not really seeing enough. So we need to see more,” he said.
“I’m always up for discussions and to find out why what should be happening is not happening. Look, it’s 2022 and it’s easy to make changes.”
Fans across the globe are calling for the raced to be cancelled out of protest. Here are some of the many examples:
If #F1 wants to use it’s influence as a sport on countries like Saudi Arabia, the biggest thing they can do now is walk away from the country, cancel the race and future races. Can’t be racing in a country that’s not safe. #SaudiArabianGP

F1 cancelled the Russian GP for attacking the Ukraine, so why are we racing in Saudi Arabia when they are doing the same in Yemen?

The fact we’re racing in Saudi Arabia in the first place is awful, why @F1 feel the need to race here with what is currently going on is beyond stupid and dangerous.
Cancel the weekend now before people get seriously hurt. #SaudiArabianGP

On top of this, the explosion next to the track which we reported earlier today has been confirmed to be a Houthi missile attack which has hit an Aramco oil facility in Jeddah.
