Racing driver Jean-Eric Vergne wasn’t able to show just how fast he could be while competing in the F1, but since moving to Formula E, the Frenchman has shone, winning a number of championships behind the wheel of the all-electric open-wheeled racecars. Recently, he joked that if Max Verstappen was ever to join Formula E, he wouldn’t show as much dominance as he does in F1.
Vergne and Max Verstappen both joined the Red Bull driver academy, with the former racing alongside Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat at Toyo Rosso in 2014-15. Both Ricciardo and Kvyat would later go on to drive for Red Bull, but Vergne was never given the opportunity. Because of this, it didn’t take long for him to leave the sport and move to Formula E instead, where he dominated the sport between 2017-18.

He believes that while Verstappen can’t be beaten in F1, if he made the transition to Formula E, things would be very different:
“He’s clearly at the top of his game in Formula 1, and he could be unbeatable. If he came to Formula E, he wouldn’t be unbeatable. I can bet what you want on that. I think I’m the best!” he said.
I’d love to see an overlap between F1 and Formula E drivers, but it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever see such a thing happen. Equally as unlikely is that Verstappen would move to Formula E, especially with him being contracted with Red Bull for the next five years.
Maybe we’ll see something happen between them that’s created as promotional content for the sports. Because I think that’s as good as it’s going to get.
