F1 News: Johnny Herbert Lashes Out At Red Bull Chief’s Comments On Lewis Hamilton
Johnny Herbert, an F1 announcer for Sky Sports F1 has lashed out at Red Bull’s Helmut Marko after his comments on Lewis Hamilton.
Marko claimed that the 7-time world champion should have retired after the 2021 F1 season after losing to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in an incredibly controversial ending of the year. This was made even worse after Verstappen lapped the Briton at last weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix where he finished 13th – 9 places behind teammate George Russell.
Mercedes has found it incredibly difficult this season to fix the porpoising issues they’re currently experiencing with the W13, which has limited the performance of the car massively. And while they’re expecting to hopefully have this fixed for the Miami GP, this has certainly knocked the team’s confidence.

“What a cheap shot – typical Helmut Marko and Red Bull, to be honest,” said Herbert he was asked by Sky Sports about Marko’s comments.
“After everything that happened last year – what a battle there was between Max and Lewis, and of course Red Bull and Mercedes…it went down to the wire, the race at the end of the year was completely and utterly wrong, but the man who dominated that last part of the year was Lewis Hamilton.
“So it just shows he was on fire at the end of last year. Would they (Red Bull) want him in their car? Yes, they would, but they know he’s a big threat to them once Mercedes get everything together and start battling for those race wins again.”
