F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Reveals Why He Couldn’t Match George Russell’s Pole

George Russell surprised F1 fans as he took a pole for Mercedes who have been struggling so far this season. But in contrast, Lewis Hamilton will be starting from P7 on the grid after a disappointing qualifying a the Hungarian Grand Prix. It’s now been revealed that he had issues with his car, which resulted in the poor pace.

Despite this, Hamilton remains in a good mood as team chief Toto Wolff and Russell celebrate the first pole of the season.

“Congratulations to George,” Hamilton told the press. “It’s a great result for the team, considering all we’ve been through. It’s huge,” he said before admitting the car was having DRS issues.

“Tried to open the DRS and it wouldn’t open. Unfortunate. I was feeling great, for sure front-row was there. Would’ve been awesome to get front-row for the team. But these things happen,” he continued.

Toto Wolff commented on the good news from the team:

“The truth is we saw it from the beginning of qualifying that our tyres were in the right window and the car was balanced.

“They drove it really well then gained confidence from run to run and this was the result.

“In this moment you want to cry joy for pole position but equally you know the car was good for him (Lewis) to be there as well. Very, very bitter sweet.

“That is a solid result, we were always off the pace on a single lap and now we are on pole so let’s see what we can do tomorrow. If we have the pace then I feel like we are in the fun and games at the front again.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
