F1 News: Liam Lawson will drive for AlphaTauri in Mexico FP1

Liam Lawson will drive in Free Practice for the second time in 2022, this time being given an opportunity with AlphaTauri in Mexico.

The 20-year-old remains a part of the Red Bull academy but failed to demonstrate in Formula 2 this season that he is deserving of an F1 contract.

AlphaTauri has already committed to its driver pairing for 2023, so Lawson will have to divert all of his efforts into performing at the highest level in Formula 2 next season.

Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries will both be under pressure at AlphaTauri in F1 next season, so Lawson can definitely create an opportunity for himself if he excels next season.

Regardless, Lawson can still impress the higher-ups at Red Bull with a solid performance in Mexico.
