F1 News: Max Verstappen Confirms Red Bull Contract Equal To That Of Lewis Hamilton And Mercedes
Formula 1 world champion and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has signed a multi-year contract with the team after his huge success last in 2021. The contact will keep him within the team until he’s almost 30 and will see him being paid over £40m a year – equalling Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes.
Verstappen became world champion in 2021 after a controversial ending to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix stopping Hamilton from winning his 8th world championship – a record in the sport.
With it being rumoured that Lewis Hamilton will retire after 2023 when his Mercedes contract comes to an end, the German racing team now won’t be able to nab Max as a replacement. Fortunately for Mercedes, George Russel looks to be a potential world champion already, with him beginning his career behind the wheel of a Silver Arrow this year.
While Max Verstappen won’t be overly involved in the upcoming series of Drive to Survive, fans will be excited to see more of the behind the scenes of what happened throughout 2021 as Max steals the title of world Champion from the Brit and Michael Masi lost his role as race director.
The rivalry between Max and Lewis will also be documented on a two-part documentary by Sky Sports. Duel: Hamilton vs Verstappen will be available on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports F1 from 7pm on Sunday, March 6 and will feature input from team principals Toto Wolff and Christian Horner, as well as others close to the sport.
