F1 News: Max Verstappen On Pole And Two Drivers Surprise With Incredible Performance

After Ferrari’s strong performance during Free Practice 1, Max Verstappen has taken pole at the Imola sprint race with a time of 1:27.999 with Charles Leclerc taking second on the grid less than a second behind. Lando Norris of McLaren sits a healthy third.

After a wet practice session, the drivers were able to run on dry or intermediate tyres for qualifying. This bode well for Leclerc in his potent Ferrari, but Lando Norris and Kevin Magnussen are the standouts for us here.

Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton didn’t perform overly well with both being knocked out after Q2, and Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz span and crashed into a wall. Alex Albon also saw his car fail as his Williams set on fire, forcing him to pit.

Top 13 Grid For Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2022:

  1. Max Verstappen, Red Bull
  2. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari
  3. Lando Norris, McLaren
  4. Kevin Magnussen, Haas
  5. Fernando Alonso, Alpine
  6. Daniel Ricciardo, McLaren
  7. Sergio Perez, Red Bull
  8. Valtteri Bottas, Alfa Romeo Racing
  9. Sebastian Vettel, Aston Martin
  10. Carlos Sainz, Ferrari
  11. George Russell, Mercedes

This qualifying will determine where drivers will start for the sprint race coming tomorrow. This will certainly be an entertaining weekend.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
