F1 News: Max Verstappen Questions Lewis Hamilton’s Investment Hopes In Chelsea FC
After reports that Lewis Hamilton is looking to invest in the purchasing of football club Chelsea FC, F1 driver and rival Max Verstappen has mocked him for being a fan of the rival team, Arsenal.
Hamilton, alongside tennis champ Serena Williams, has offered £10m in a bid spearheaded by British Airways chairman Sir Martin Broughton.
Max Verstappen commented on the bid:
“I am a PSV (Eindhoven) fan and I would never buy Ajax,” the driver told the Press Association.
“And if I was going to buy a football club, I would want to be the full owner and to take the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage.
“I thought he was an Arsenal fan?” he joked.
And if you are an Arsenal fan going for Chelsea, that is quite interesting.
“But everyone does what they want with their money, so let’s see what comes out of it.”
According to Sky News, a source has said that the involvement of Hamilton and Williams is “a serious investment decision because of their experience at building global sports brands”, with Hamilton promising that he wants to bring diversity to the team.
He said he wants to “play a formal role in Chelsea’s future efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion”.
