F1 News: Mick Schumacher Could Take Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes Seat According To Ralf Schumacher – “Decisive Factor Will Be Who Suits The New Car Better.”

As the 2022 Formula One season has come to a close, attention is already turning to the future of Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher and nephew of former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher. After losing his seat with Haas at the end of the season, it was announced that Mick had signed with Mercedes as a reserve driver for 2023. Ralf has spoken about his nephews future with the team and that he could possibly take Lewis Hamilton’s seat.

In an interview with Sport1.de, Ralf Schumacher spoke about the opportunity this presents for his nephew.

“It’s a great opportunity for Mick. He can look over the shoulder of a top team at work and learn a lot.”

While Mick will begin next season as a reserve driver, there is the possibility that he could eventually replace Lewis Hamilton, who is one of the older drivers on the grid. Ralf hinted at this possibility, saying:

“We’ve had this situation more often in the last three years. Although Lewis Hamilton is still an absolute top driver, he is no longer the youngest. Since the tooth of time gnaws. So you never know.”

There have also been rumours that Mick could join Audi in 2024, as the team is reportedly interested in bringing on a German driver. Ralf acknowledged this possibility, saying:

“Audi would definitely make sense. For Mick and for Audi. But something could also happen at Mercedes.”

However, Ralf pointed out that the future of Hamilton’s seat at Mercedes is not yet certain, as it will depend on factors such as the performance of other drivers, including George Russell. Ralf said:

“Let’s assume George Russell is faster than Lewis Hamilton again. Will he then continue at all? This will be exciting. But Lewis has so much credit with Mercedes that he decides it himself. In any case, the money will not play a role for him. He has more than enough of that. The decisive factor will be who suits the new car better.”

It remains to be seen how the situation will play out and whether Mick Schumacher will eventually have the opportunity to step up to a permanent seat with Mercedes. For now, he will have the chance to learn and develop as a reserve driver, with the possibility of a bright future ahead.
