F1 News: Red Bull Chief Still Believes Lewis Hamilton Could Make A Comeback

Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, has admitted that despite Lewis Hamilton’s poor performance so far this season, he’s sure he will “become a factor” later in the year.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was extremely successful with Max Verstappen taking first place with Sergio Perez not far behind. Hamilton on the other hand wasn’t even in Max’s rear-view mirror, apart from when he lapped him, of course. Finishing in P13, he brought home 0 points to Mercedes.

Fans of the 7-time world champion couldn’t believe what they were seeing as Mercedes team principal described the race as a “low” for the car. Horner agrees with Wolff, saying he’s still a champion.

“He obviously had a horrible weekend but he is still an eight-time World Champion… seven-time! I forgot Nico Rosberg won,” he said as per GPFans.

“He hasn’t forgotten how to drive in the last four races so at some point they will sort their issues out and he will become a factor.”

Hamilton’s teammate George Russell came 4th at Imola last weekend and currently sits 3 places above him in the Driver Standings.

Horner continued:

“I think Lewis didn’t have a great weekend but we are very much focused on our race and trying to extract the maximum points.

“It was obviously one of those things.

“At that point, we were looking at the clouds, was the rain going to come in the last part of the race or not, we were more focused on that.”

Max Verstappen lapped Hamilton during last weekend’s race at Imola, and he was asked about it in a press conference afterwards:

“I mean, they’ve been slow all year so it’s not really a surprise or I feel happy lapping Lewis compared to anyone else.

“But it is what it is.”

Hamilton simply responded:

“This shows how wrong we’ve got it.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
