F1 News: Toto Wolff Calling The Mercedes W13 A ‘Diva’ Is An “Understatement”
Mercedes has had serious issues so far this season. And while the Miami Grand Prix shone a glimmer of light over the Mercedes camp as they showed a slightly faster pace than previously, tension is still high as the W13 continues to underperform.
“We still don’t really understand why it’s so unpredictable,” George Russell said post-race.
“Toto [Wolff] has thrown the word ‘diva’ around a lot, but I think that’s a bit of an understatement because it’s so unpredictable, and when the thing starts bouncing in the corners…
“It’s a killer to drive.”
Despite these issues, George Russell has reliably finished in the top 5 each race – which no other driver has managed this season – whereas Hamilton hasn’t been so lucky.
Russell is adamant the pace of the car “is there”, the team simply, or maybe not-so-simply, needs “to try and unlock it”.
Will they manage to find some pace before the Italian Grand Prix? We’ll have to wait and see, but it would be a blast to have three constructors competing for the championship.
