After rumours that Gasly was looking to replace Red Bull driver Sergio Perez after Helmut Marko sparked the internet into a frenzy, it’s been confirmed that the French racing driver will indeed be moving from AlphaTauri to Red Bull from 2023. Look more closely however, and you’ll see it isn’t the official account at all.
You heard the rumours…🧏♂️

“You heard the rumours,” it tweeted. “We are glad to announce that Pierre Gasly will rejoin the Red Bull Racing team in 2023 along side Max Verstappen. Going full Gas in 2023!”
This comes moments after Red Bull’s head of driver development program admitted that despite Perez being established in the team, they didn’t want to lose Gasly as a driver.
“If Gasly’s contract expires and we can’t offer him any chance of promotion, we will most likely lose him,” Marko said in an interview with the YouTube channel Formel1.de.
“We don’t want that. We currently have a contract with Checo Perez and we have to compare the performance of these two drivers. With Checo we still have until mid-season.
“The car fits him better, he feels more comfortable, plus he already knows the team. We are very happy that this development has taken place.”
Of course, this story isn’t true. In fact, the tweet above is from an unofficial copycat of the Red Bull Racing account, and has tricked thousands into thinking the French driver would be taking the wheel of a bull. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
“I think Perez should stay,” says an unsuspecting user. “He’s doing MORE then enough in that Red Bull ,I believe gasly is still a lil rough around the edges and still need time to grow while perez is arguably still in his prime ,Red Bull should focus on developing the car instead of a driver change” (sic).
“Not fair to make a joke on a driver that is really fighting for that and he would deserve it too. Really unfair,” not realising it wasn’t the official Red Bull Racing account.
“I hate April 1st,” said a third.
