F1 News: Vettel admits F1 future hangs in the balance
Sebastian Vettel has spoken candidly about his future in F1 throughout the season and has provided further insight into what will affect his decision to stay in the sport.
In an interview with RTL, held before the British GP, the 4-time World Champion admitted that Aston Martin’s development over the next few rounds would be essential in whether he would continue with the team.
Vettel has echoed a similar sentiment to his team principal Mike Krack, who admitted that the Silverstone-based team’s updates would be crucial to incentivise Vettel to stay with the team.
The #5 already has several championships and race victories, so it seems unlikely he is willing to continue racing for a team that is squabbling for the lower end of the points.
Aston Martin will have to convince Vettel that the team’s project is worth believing in, but given their poor development both pre-season and during the season itself, there is very little evidence they can provide on this front.
Vettel already spoke about the significant difference between fighting for race wins and fighting for points. Considering he has a family, Aston Martin will need to pull something out of the bag to convince him to stay.
