F1’s New Crackdown On Rules Is Aimed At Lewis Hamilton – Ted Kravitz

Ted Kravitz, legendary Sky F1 reporter, has admitted that he believes the FIA’s new focus on jewelry is specifically aimed at the 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Friday’s briefing at the Australian Grand Prix saw rules and regulations being doubled down on by the FIA. Drivers were told by the race director Niels Wittich that they must wear fireproof underwear, but mustn’t wear jewelry while racing. This includes all body piercings, pushing Kravitz to believe it’s aimed specifically at Hamilton.

“We checked with Mick Schumacher who wears, when he’s not in the car, a metal chain necklace and he says he doesn’t wear it in the car, so it isn’t him,” Kravitz said.

“So it did seem to be on the face of it, a measure, or wanting to enforce a rule specifically targeted at Lewis Hamilton who of course has ear piercings and a nose piercing.”

Kravitz added that he asked the FIA if this was true, but of course it was denied.

“I asked the FIA this and they said no absolutely not,” the reporter said.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen with the piercings tomorrow [Sunday] because they said they would check it before the race.

“So what are they going to do? Go up to Lewis Hamilton, someone is going to check if he has his nose piercing in or if he has his earrings in. What is this about?

“Your right the FIA might be saying it’s all about safety. But come on, have they not got bigger priorities.”

Hamilton started P5 in the Australian Grand Prix and is currently fourth in front of teammate George Russell.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
