Max Verstappen Is “Long Way Off” From Lewis Hamilton And Michael Schumacher Status According To Former F1 Driver
Michael Schumacher’s brother, Ralf, has claimed that it is “premature” for Max Verstappen to consider breaking any F1 records that are currently held by his brother and Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen took his second championship at the Japanese Grand Prix where he took his lead to an unbeatable point. Since taking the 2022 championship and with the impressive streak Red Bull are on at the moment, many are likening Verstappen to Schumacher and Hamilton.
Ralf Schumacher wrote Sky:
“Although he is only 25 years old, I think it would be a bit premature to think about whether he can tackle the records of Lewis Hamilton and Michael,”
“I assume that Verstappen is not looking for it yet.
“That is still a long way off.
He continued:
“Of course, he can definitely do that from his driving skills, there is no doubt about that.
“But we also know that in Formula 1 it also depends on factors that the driver cannot always influence.
“What particularly impresses me about him is that there have been strong drivers in the past who have dominated together with their team. In relation to his team-mate Sergio Perez, Verstappen also makes a difference in the team in an impressive way.”
Red Bull have been flooding headlines recently after the FIA confirmed that they did go over the cost-cap in 2021. The FIA are now going through the process of deciding what this will mean for the team and what the necessary punishment will be. However, before the cost-cap was put in place the FIA released information stating that a team or driver could lose a championship if they went over the budget.
