You not only need to be light enough to not ruin the weight savings made by your team on the car, but your body needs to be strong enough to withstand the forces of such a high performing vehicle. But there’s one thing a driver can’t change, and that’s their height.

The tallest F1 driver:

This crown is shared by Esteban Ocon of Alpine and Alex Albon of Williams who both measure in at 1.86 metres. Alex is the heavier of the two weighing 74kg, with Esteban weighing just 66kg.

The shortest F1 driver:

Maybe unsurprisingly, the shortest driver is Yuki Tsunoda, who’s height sits at 1.59m. Also unsurprisingly, he’s the lightest of the bunch at only 54kg.

What are the rules behind F1 driver weight?

The FIA states that a driver and their seat must weight 80kg. If they are below this weight, then ballasts will be added to the car to bring the cockpit weight to 80kg.

Interestingly though, a driver will lose 2-3kg of water weight during a single race.
