Who Is Lewis Hamilton’s Mum? What You Need To Know About Carmen Larbalestier

It’s been announced that Lewis Hamilton will be changing his name to honour his mum, Carmen Larbalestier. But fans don’t know a lot about the mysterious mother of the 7-time world champion and what their relationship is like. His dad, Anthony Hamilton, has had a large role in the Mercedes driver’s racing career, but his mother has hidden from the cameras.

Who is Carmen Larbalestier, Lewis Hamilton’s mum?

Carmen was born in 1955, and at the age of 30 gave birth to Lewis Hamilton while married to Anthony Hamilton. Merely two years later, the couple separated, and Lewis lived with her until he was 12 with his half sisters Nicola and Samantha.

At this point he moved in with his father Anthony, his stepmother Linda, and half-brother Nicolas.

What’s their relationship like?

It’s perfect as far as is reported. While Hamilton’s father Anthony is at almost all of Lewis’ races, Carmen attends the larger races and is often seen cheering him on during races and hugging him afterwards.

Lewis has also planned birthday parties for his mother, with her 60th being the most memorable as he managed to get Jessie J to sing at it in 2015.

He posted a photo to Instagram at the time alongside the caption: “So much planning and hard work, all to surprise the most amazing woman in the world, and it was so worth it!! Love you Mum. Happy birthday.”

It’s been revealed that Lewis Hamilton will change his name to honour his mother, Carmen Larbalestier. This comes the same year the F1 champ is looking to win the world title for the eighth time.

The 7-time world champion said that he will be making the move “soon”, and will be changing his name to Hamilton-Larbalestier:

“My mum’s name is Larbalestier and I’m just about to put that in my name,” the Mercedes driver said in an on-stage interview at the Expo world fair in Dubai.

“Because I don’t really fully understand the whole idea when people get married then the woman loses her name.

“And my mum, I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name.”
