Clarkson Demolishes The Highway Code On Cyclists

Cyclists are not the most favoured people on the road, let’s face it. Most drivers hate cyclists, the ones who don’t, cycle on the weekends.

Obviously I’m generalising here. I don’t mind cyclists and I’m less likely to get on a bike that Hammond is after driving a Rimac. It’s just when cyclists don’t abide by the rules of the road – that’s when they annoy me.

I don’t seem to be the only one who thinks this way. Clarkson is exactly the same… well.. maybe slightly (a lot) more anti than I am. In his latest column for The Sun he discusses this, and he talks about how the rules that drivers have to abide by, in particular the distance we have to pass cyclists at, is stupid.

To illustrate his point, he gives us an example:

“The bike needs to be two feet from the kerb to be safe. It is a foot wide and it needs five feet of clearance. That’s eight feet for a bicycle, which on most normal British roads leaves two feet for the car or truck to get past safely.”

The kicker is, is that the smallest car is the Peel P50. And that’s three feet three inches wide.

Seems like someone didn’t think this through.

Read Clarkson’s column to have a laugh at how stupid all of this is.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
